Geoff Berry recently finished up an inquiry unit with his Grade 5s and 6s in the Australian Curriculum area of History. They were studying the Stolen Generation.
Before the unit began, Berry found that very few of the students had any understanding of the Stolen Generation.
Here, in a conversation with AITSL (the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership), he discusses how linking the film and novel Rabbit Proof Fence through movie reviews and film editing has helped his students gain a clearer understanding of 1930s law and the history of the Stolen Generation.
