Professor Robyn Ewing from the University of Sydney sat down with Teacher magazine's Rebecca Vukovic at Research Conference 2018 to discuss some of the barriers to Arts-rich programs in schools and how they can be overcome.
She says that an overemphasis on high stakes testing means that many teachers feel pressured to teach to tests. Ewing also discusses how subjects are often siloed, and some subjects are thought to be more important than others.
‘We need to find opportunities for professional learning so that teachers can understand how important embedding arts processes and experiences are, across the curriculum, not just in the particular Arts subjects,' Ewing shares.
